Into the bruising, bluesing wild
Foraging finally to find my fire
Covered and smothered and smoke up lift
The endless night shift, and now it’s
Forwards and backwards in aimless rounds
Managing slightly with stakes in soft grounds
Binding myself to every breath
Fitting to what’s left
And the legacy of what it means to be okay falls away
And no presence last for all futures passed on the stay
Into the colors that cycling finds
Fortified red anger finds fortified red wines
Up from the table and back again
Off and on the mend
And it comforts me that there is a tree somewhere far away
That won’t sway by the emotional location of my day
Darkness and dawn, you, you’re on, it’s a thrill
Monsters will find you by luck or by skill
And to stay with it still and sway until they’re gone
Into the back with a stack of work
Heavy fluorescents and managers lurk
Punch through the clock for to grab the time
Force it back to its prime, and a short walk
Brings it back, put on Bowl of Plums
Latched to the swell of the troubadour’s strum
Simple and clean and connected sway
Before it falls away
And it comforts me that there is a tree somewhere far away
That won’t sway by the emotional location of my day
